A bright, beautiful work that serves as a gentle introduction to diversity and schoolyard dynamics. -- Kirkus Reviews
Mardi Claw is a humorous picture book about Clown Crab and Blue Crab competing to host the best Mardi Claw party on the coral reef. Blue Crab feels left out when Clown Crab doesn't invite her to his Mardi Claw party, so she decides to host her own party. But the coral reef isn't big enough for two parties... or is it?
Each crab tries to make their Mardi Claw party bigger and better, until the two parties crash together in a conga line of sea creatures. Clown Crab apologizes for excluding Blue Crab from his party The two crabs shake claws and agree to host a party together next year in a theme of inclusivity.
With vibrant illustrations, the underwater creatures come alive with all their personalities intact. Journey under the sea for a Mardi Gras party you won't forget with Clown Crab and Blue Crab. The story is compelling for any child who feels left out when they're not invited to a party. Children can enjoy social emotional learning with a light touch and heartwarming ending.
The other creatures on the coral reef are torn between attending both parties. Jellyfish, electric eels and seahorses also make an appearance with the crabs for a colorful cast of characters. Back matter at the end of the book includes information about blue crabs, clown crabs, king crabs, hermit crabs, and pom-pom crabs. Fans of The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo will enjoy this excursion under the sea.
