I have only one request to the readers, If ever you decide to check the trueness of my stories, remember my honest and frankness. रणजित देसाईंनी अगदी आरंभीच्या काळात ज्या काही लघुकथा लिहिल्या, त्यांतील निवडक कथा या संग्रहात संग्रहित केल्या आहेत. या कथा 'मौज', 'सत्यकथा', 'प्रसाद', 'किर्लोस्कर', 'अभिरुचि' व 'जनवाणी' अशा दर्जेदार नियतकालिकांमध्ये प्रसिद्ध झालेल्या आहेत. या कथांविषयी लिहिताना स्वत रणजित देसाई म्हणतात '.... एक 'गुजगोष्ट' सांगावीशी वाटते, की मी जे काही लिहिले आहे, ते अगदी मनापासून लिहिले आहे. त्यात उणिवा असतील, दोष असतील, विस्तार कमी-अधिक असेल, नागरी जीवनापेक्षा ग्रामीण जीवनाचेच जास्त चित्रण असेल; परंतु त्यात अप्रामाणिकपणा मात्र खास नाही. माझ्या कथांना कसोटी लावलीच, तर ती 'प्रांजलपणा'चीच लावावी, एवढेच 'पसायदान' मी वाचकांपुढे मागतो.'
