Madapravu Vilichapool. The characters in the stories I wrote, When the wood pigeon called. may be people I met in my life, or they may have emerged from a single spark I got from them that grew into a flame. I mixed them with my thoughts, gave them wings, and set them flying in the sky. These stories are scribbled down on paper. I started writing as a way to kill time during breaks at my workplaces. But later, it became a passion. So what I'm presenting to you now as stories are the thoughts I once sketched out on paper. This book is a collection of 17 stories. Most of them are connected to the lanes of our village, the coconut groves, and the paddy fields. There are no stories of party politics here. There are no stories of love or enmity. There are no stories of caste or religion either. What's here are the lives of the people in our land. Their tears and laughter, anger and endurance, and their good hearts. The content of this book is their lives.Above all, as you read these stories, you may at times come face to face with yourself, or at least with your own shadow. Just read these stories like you would listen to a story sitting in our courtyard in the evenings. As we walk forward, these stories will ask you to turn back once, just like we do when we suddenly find something we had lost long ago. These stories will be calling out to you from somewhere. All you need to do is pause for a moment to hear that call.I'm waiting for your reading and for your valuable feedback.
