Making of State is a seminal historical and political memoir by Dr. Thomas Garrigue Masryk, the founding father and first President of Czechoslovakia. This authoritative work chronicles the monumental efforts and diplomatic strategies that led to the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Masryk provides an insider's perspective on the complex geopolitical landscape of World War I, detailing his travels across Europe, Russia, and the United States to secure international recognition for a new democratic state.
The book goes beyond a mere historical account; it is a profound reflection on the principles of democracy, human rights, and the moral foundations of national sovereignty. Masryk explains the intellectual and philosophical underpinnings of the struggle for independence, illustrating how cultural identity and political will can reshape the borders of Europe. Making of State remains an essential text for understanding the political evolution of Central Europe and the challenges of nation-building in the early 20th century. This work offers invaluable insights into the life of a statesman whose vision helped define a new era of European history.
