Kelly Phillips may be the author of this book, but Macs is the real story. After Kellyas divorce he was given to her as a companion and protector from her daughter Krista. He has given new meaning to the words amanas best friend.a Although Kelly is now remarried there were many long nights when Macs slept by Kellyas bed keeping her company in a not-so-nice neighborhood. He even now is reluctant to leave her to go outside unless she goes to the door with him. He loves the other people in the house, especially chasing the boys through the house and playing hide and seek, but he is totally devoted to his owner. Kelly grew up in rural Webster County in southwest Missouri. She and her brothers and sisters had a variety of pets and animals while growing up including a pet pig. The love for animals and children is what inspired Kelly to write this book. In the twenty-six years as a nurse she has done many jobs including kidney dialysis, supervising, and school nursing. She only became interested in oncology after surviving throat cancer and is proud to be a seven-year survivor. Her patients and friends at St. Johnas have been such a blessing and it was when some of her co-workers were having new babies that she decided to write about Macs. So they would have something fun to read to their children. She and her husband Donnie will be moving to a new home soon and Macs of course will go with them. He will have a bigger yard to explore and maybe a few varmints to chase off.
