Mackenzie's Memorials of the Siege of Derry is a historical book written by John Mackenzie in 1861. The book primarily focuses on the Siege of Derry, which took place in 1689 during the Williamite War in Ireland. The author, John Mackenzie, was a participant in the siege and his book is a first-hand account of the events that took place during the siege. The book is divided into two parts. The first part is Mackenzie's Narrative, which is a personal account of his experiences during the siege. The second part is the Vindication, which is a defense of Mackenzie's Narrative against criticism from other historians.Mackenzie's Narrative provides a detailed and vivid description of the siege, including the battles, the hardships endured by the defenders, and the political and religious tensions that fueled the conflict. The Vindication, on the other hand, addresses criticisms of Mackenzie's Narrative by other historians, including accusations of bias and exaggeration.Overall, Mackenzie's Memorials of the Siege of Derry is an important historical document that provides valuable insight into one of the most significant events in Irish history. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of Ireland, the Williamite War, or military history in general. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
