That which distinguishes a Christian family from any other family is unfortunately becoming virtually indistinguishable. According to Barna Research, the divorce rate in the Christian church exceeds that of the world. Notwithstanding this sad statistic, many Christian families struggle to carve out an identity in the day-to-day pressures of life. This book, based on our workshops most of the same title, offers the family seven biblical foundations on which to build. Most importantly, this book makes a few underlying presuppositions about the reader. We assume you, the reader, are a committed Christian and that you are daily yielding your life to the lordship of Jesus Christ. This particular book is for families who want to grow deeper in relationship with the Lord and each other. Like us you are ready to grow and to stretch a bit. This book may be a bit hard-hitting at times. We attempt to be transparent and hope you will be likewise with be true to yourself. We grow when our lives are watered with the truth. We can only find truth as we accept lies as deception. We may knock down some sacred altars. Thus, we do not attempt to soft-soap real issues. We ask you to examine things that you may do as a matter of tradition that may need to be altered. These are not inherently wrong or harmful, but some embrace these traditions as the Word of God itself. For instance, most Sunday morning services begin at 11 a.m. not because the Word of God commands us but because the United States used to be an agrarian culture and church service was timed to coincide with the completion of milking the cows, morning chores, etc. While tradition is important in our communities it must never be elevated above truth and thus growth. These foundations are not just trite principles but are issues we have seen in our counselling. We hope it challenges you to make your family biblical, sound and effective, so that we can draw people to the King of kings! We also want you to know daily we are still challenged to work each of these principles in our own lives and hope you enjoy coming with us on the journey. Are you ready? Let's go!
