The Progression of Leadership series begins with Called by Name, a youth group canoe trip set roughly twenty years later, where a few characters from the earlier adventures return. About eight years after that comes Training New, the first book I wrote in this leadership series. The journey continues through Followers, Bossing, and the second last book called Football and Team Leadership, before arriving here at (A leadership retreat) with the theme of: Leading. Called. Following.

As the characters grow and their responsibilities change, the stories invite us to examine more closely how we lead, follow, and respond to the people who depend on us.

This story takes us to the summer of 2022, and familiar characters are gathering at a lakeside retreat centre. Planned by Jack Darnell and hosted by Harper Rowan, the weekend brings together people whose experiences range from executive offices and training roles, to football fields, and shelter floors. Through conversations, shared activities, and a few disruptions, they reflect on what they have learned about leading and following.

Then an unforeseen turn of events makes room for a voice nobody expected to hear. Someone who has lived with the consequences of other people's decisions helps the room understand what their leadership meant beyond the moments they remember.

This book brings these leadership stories to a close with an invitation to remain humble before God. The questions asked of these characters are also questions for us. As you read, consider what their journeys reveal about your own heart.
