In the final age of a dying universe, the stars are gone.
Across scattered worlds orbiting ancient black holes, the last surviving civilizations endure in the darkness by harnessing the immense energy of collapsing cosmic giants. Towering cities cling to frozen planets lit only by artificial light and the glow of accretion disks, while forgotten ruins from long-dead empires drift through space like tombs.
Amid the slow extinction of all life, a team of explorers and scientists embarks on a desperate mission to uncover the truth behind ancient myths that speak of two impossible hopes: the creation of artificial stars and a pathway to escape the dying universe itself.
The expedition is led by three unlikely allies:
- a brilliant scientist terrified of challenging the beliefs of society,
- a witty explorer and master linguist who deciphers the languages of lost civilizations,
- and a wealthy aristocrat funding the mission whose hidden ambitions slowly pull him toward a dangerous cult.
As the team journeys across barren worlds filled with collapsing terrain, violent gravitational anomalies, hostile creatures, and buried underground cities, they uncover pyramids, obelisks, and colossal statues dedicated to forgotten gods whose legends may contain fragments of real cosmic knowledge.
But they are not alone.
A powerful nihilistic cult believes civilization deserves to die with the universe. Interpreting the ancient prophecies as proof that existence itself must end, the cult wages war against anyone seeking salvation. As tensions rise, betrayal emerges from within the expedition itself, threatening to destroy humanity's final chance before darkness consumes everything.
Blending space-fantasy adventure, cosmic horror, mystery, and philosophical conflict, Lost Embers is a story about hope at the end of time - and whether life is worth saving when the universe itself is dying.
