- Select the correct regional frequency plan
- Use Adaptive Data Rate appropriately
- Understand DevEUI, JoinEUI, DevAddr, root keys, and session keys
The book covers both managed and privately controlled deployment models. You will work with The Things Stack for managed LoRaWAN exercises and explore a private ChirpStack installation where gateways, device management, MQTT messaging, databases, and application integrations remain under your control.
Payload efficiency receives particular attention. Instead of sending unnecessarily large messages, you will learn to encode measurements compactly, understand byte order, organize application data, decode payloads, and balance information requirements against airtime and energy consumption.
The application side is equally practical. After establishing the radio and network path, you will move device data into software workflows, validate readings, store useful measurements, build monitoring views, create alert rules, and detect missing or offline devices.
The book also emphasizes an important engineering lesson: maximum advertised range is not the same as a reliable deployment. Good systems balance spreading factor, airtime, reporting frequency, antenna placement, gateway coverage, battery consumption, regional requirements, and application needs.
