Ironically, the United States, more than any other nation was responsible for awakening Japan from her ancient isolation and sending her on her reckless quest for power and dominion. This book examines many of these seldom mentioned events from the opening of Japan to foreign trade in 1854 to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Also it includes a discussion of the major battles in the Pacific during World War II and why the atomic bomb was used to bring the war to a climactic end at Nagasaki. Other topics include a discussion of the emergence of a new Japan; the Tokyo war crimes trials; and how the Japanese industry standards were redefined to erase the prewar reputation of cheap, inferior copies of items produced elsewhere.
