Poetter bewegt sich mit seiner Arbeit, die er in knappe, kurze und prägnante Paragraphen aufgeteilt hat, in die durch Männer wie Hegel, Herbart und Schleiermacher vorgezeichnete Bewertungsrichtung der Logik. Dennoch - und dies macht Poetters Arbeit so spannend - ist es ihm bei der Entwicklung seiner eigenen Darstellung der Logik wichtig, eine Einseitigkeit, wie sie sich in der kant'schen und herbart'schen auf der einen und in der hegelschen Schule auf der anderen Seite darstellt, zu vermeiden.
