Bedtime is very scary for little monster, Levi Athan, because he is certain there is a ferocious kid under his bed! In this story we follow along as Levi makes many attempts, and failures, to overcome his fear of kids and get a good night sleep. During this wild and wacky night, he and his stuffed animal, Scrunch, get startled and goofed many times. Luckily, he has the support of his loving Momster who helps him along the way. Eventually, after accepting some good advice, he is able to learn how to calm his mind and get through this tough night by taking a few deep breaths.
Being a child who had many bedtime related fears, I was able to tap into my own experiences to create this story. It wasn't until adulthood that I finally learned the coping skills necessary to get through big emotions, like fear, with more ease. After having a child of my own I soon realized how important it is to guide our kids through emotional turmoil and impart on them the skills to do so with confidence at an early age. -Kate Newton
Helping Kids Find Calm to Feel Better
This story can help parents explain the use of deep breathing to calm the mind and do it in a fun, entertaining way. Many of the scenarios in this book were inspired by real bedtime fears kids face at night. The intention for this book is to use a relatable story trope with a humorous twist to give young readers the skills necessary to deal with life's big fears.
