Life's Too Short and So Am I is the title for this memoir. It's about me, from being a 10-year-old girl (child of an alcoholic) with dwarfism, which changes the course of history for my mother and me, to finding myself lost at 42. I've married three times (third time's a charm) and I have an adult son with intellectual disabilities, and a stepson who loves me but doesn't allow me to get really close to him in respect to his real mother, who lacks the maternal nurturing on soooo many levels. I share the right and wrong paths I've chosen in life. I share the fears that keep me up at night and the simple pleasures I accept in life to keep it interesting and simplified. I learn never to stay angry and to move on, and above all...to be humorous. You must have a sense of humor in this life because laughter keeps the heart young and makes you realize things could be a lot worse. I'm not out to prove a point that even though I'm little, I can do everything that others can do. I'm not going to educate you about little people-ism. I don't feel as though I've been discriminated against. I'm not writing this to say how people suck. I do share with you the peaks and pitfalls of my life, and people's uncanny comfortableness in sharing with me their life's stories and perceptions/opinions. I also mention the acceptance I've received from people who have a voice but sometimes go unnoticed due to their disabilities. It's just the title of the book...no hidden meaning. Life is too short and as a matter of fact, so am I.
