The Life Of The Venerable Servant Of God, Monseigneur Dumoulin Borie: Bishop Elect Of Acanthus, Vicar Apostolic Of Western Tonquin, And Martyr (1856) is a biography of a French Catholic bishop who served in Tonkin, Vietnam during the 19th century. The book, written by Augustine Francis Hewit, details the life and work of Monseigneur Dumoulin Borie, who was appointed as the bishop of Acanthus and vicar apostolic of Western Tonquin in the mid-1800s. Borie's mission in Tonkin was to spread Christianity and establish a Catholic presence in the region, but he faced significant challenges due to the hostility of the local authorities and the ongoing conflicts between the French and Vietnamese. Despite these obstacles, Borie remained committed to his mission and continued to work tirelessly until he was eventually captured and killed by the Vietnamese authorities in 1838. The book provides a detailed account of Borie's life and work, as well as the political and social context in which he operated. It also explores the broader themes of Catholicism, colonialism, and martyrdom in the 19th century. Overall, The Life Of The Venerable Servant Of God, Monseigneur Dumoulin Borie is a valuable historical document that sheds light on the life of a remarkable figure in Catholic history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
