When Sophie Dakkar lost her baby son to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), grief pulled her to the bottom of the sea. The Nautilus became her metaphor for that impossible place, a world beneath the surface where she would have to learn to breathe again.
Letters for Nemo is the record of that descent and of the improbable journey back. Written as a series of letters to her son, it follows one mother from the night the world split in two to an unplanned pilgrimage across Japan, where what felt like signs began to appear: in cherry blossoms and red torii gates, in the number 11:11, in the silence of temples and the kindness of strangers.
