This epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and is truly the purest Gospel, Martin Luther himself wrote in his Preface to the Letter to the Romans.
The Letter to the Romans is the black bread of the New Testament: not light fare, but robust, filling, and sustaining for faith and theology.
Romans is not light reading to be consumed quickly, but a dense, substantial theological staple that provides lasting nourishment. The letter brings together central themes such as sin, God's righteousness, justification, faith, the Law, baptism, the Spirit, Israel, and the ethics of the new life.
First, I translated the text from the Greek original and, in doing so, made a fundamental discovery.
Luther translated everything through his legal lens and used legal language, with terms such as righteousness and righteous.
As if God were nothing but a judge.
When I examined Luther's translation of the passage about Abram-Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness (Romans 4:3)-I realized: This is not a good translation.
Even if this legal language is retained, it does not conform to legal logic at all.
For the story of counting the stars was not about legal questions. Not in the slightest.
What the text actually says is: Abraham trusted God, and this trust in God was counted to him as congruence.
The point of the story of God and Abram was that God was pleased with Abram's response. His response was congruent with God's thoughts. For Abram truly believed that, despite his infertility, he could still become a biological father.
This is how I discovered terms such as congruence and incongruence, which better reflect relationships between persons.
One has a congruent relationship with God, or one is incongruent with God.
One is congruent with one's partner, or the relationship is fractured.
This led me to develop the Soteriology of Congruence. Soteriology is the theological doctrine of salvation or redemption.
For Jesus wanted to free us from the Judicial Empire and lead us into the Kingdom of the Father.

Ultimately, I use a bottle as a metaphor for faith in God. On the outside, a bottle bears a seal and a label. But what matters is what is inside the bottle: the spirit.
