Leni is NOT a lesser evil among the candidates. She is a good candidate. No fake degrees. No corruption issues. No unexplained wealth accumulation while in public service. Not a part of a political dynasty. Did NOT choose to be a placeholder when her husband finished his term as Mayor in Naga. Not guilty of any criminal cases or unlawful acts. Not a joke. Not a sham. Not a power-tripper.
She is the current Vice-President that has done many relevant and timely programs/projects and has forged many partnerships to make the seemingly impossible pursuits happen. She is the kind of lawyer who understands, respects, and upholds the law. She is a public servant who values accountability, transparency, and community participation. She is a development worker who is immersed in the communities she serves. She is a teacher that facilitates learning anchored in facts. She is a mother who raised educated and well-mannered daughters. She is an empowered woman through and through. Given her track record and other relevant aspects she's involved in, you can tell a lot about the kind of character she has.
Long before she became a public servant, she has been closely working with and for vulnerable communities/groups. She did that without fanfare. She walked hundreds of kilometers to remote areas. She slept in boats. She understands the plight of people and she admits that she cannot give solutions to their issues all by herself. How grounded and pragmatic. Yes, that's her even before joining politics.
Throwing support for Leni is not a gamble. It is a step closer to a better Philippines. I don't think Leni deserves the kind of Filipinos many of us are. But she is the kind of leader we need at this point. ENOUGH of TRAPOS. We deserve better.
Rooting for Leni is not a favor we accord to her. Rooting for Leni is a favor we owe to ourselves, to the country, and the generations of Filipinos to come.
