Meanwhile, Harrison continues to excel academically, taking eighth-grade math despite being only a seventh grader. His intelligence earns praise from teachers but also makes him the target of older students who resent his success. Martin becomes increasingly popular through football while remaining fiercely loyal to his friends.
A new and mysterious character soon enters the story: Joey Greco. Quiet, athletic, and emotionally guarded after losing both of his parents as a child, Joey possesses extraordinary climbing abilities. As his past unfolds, readers discover that Joey's unusual gifts began in infancy, making him far more than an ordinary middle-school student. His gecko-like ability to cling to walls eventually earns him the nickname The Wall Crawler.
