I know of absolutely no evidence that science must be serious. In fact, if one thumbs through almost any science journal, one will find at least a little uproarious comedy. Scientific predictions may be some of the most hilarious endeavors of all. Generally, scientists don't want you to know that science isn't serious. They need to convince people of the serious nature of their endeavor because most of science itself doesn't make anyone any money. Scientists need your money to support their activities. Money is always a serious endeavor. Especially when it appears that increasing amounts are required for lessening returns. Now, I don't want any of my science friends, that I used to have, to go hungry or anything. But I feel it is my duty to dispel the basic assumption that science is serious and important. So, in this book I present scientific topics as if they were not serious. This is not as easy as it sounds, and a great deal of effort has gone into it. I'm serious. However, I want to assure you that, despite the difficulty, there is something true and scientific in every chapter. . . I think.
