Though his career lasted barely a decade and a half, Klabund left a distinctive mark on early twentieth-century German literature: cosmopolitan yet intimate, experimental yet accessible, he remains a writer whose work bridges lyricism, satire, and theatrical. Klabund was the pen name of the German writer Alfred Henschke (1890-1928). Despite suffering from closed tuberculosis Klabund was a prolific writer over his short career producing numerous volumes of poetry, short stories, novels and plays. This collection includes Klabund's early plays: 1) A World-Historical Event, 2) Alcestis, 3) The Young Hetaera, 4) Cecil, 5) The Silver Fox, 6) The Servant in Red, 7) Poor Kaspar, 8) The Stranger, 9) Mama, 10) Temptation, 11) Hannibal's Bridal Journey, 11) Terzett, 12) The Fat Capon, 13) The Debaucher, 14) Tommy Atkins, 15) The Speed-Painter, 16) The Sleepwalkers, 17) Dialogue on Politics and Poetry, 18) The Gravedigger, 19) The Awakening, 20) The Strange Guest, 21) The Models of Phidias, 22) Cromwell - Two Surviving Scenes of the Lost Drama, 23) The Gambler, 24) Kaspar - A Tragedy.
