This is a spinoff from Three Idiots and a Wise Man. Kumar and Sneha were together for two years in junior college. During the summer holidays, Kumar went away, and Sneha's parents sent her to their village. What Kumar does next becomes the story of The Innocent Man.
These stories are based on the Alternate Reality Theory. The central theme explores how a single change in a small event can alter a person's entire life.
There is also an element of connection to other dimensions and timelines, which is fully revealed throughout the series. Several recurring characters appear across the books, and their links to Kumar's life create the larger narrative.
In this story, after Sneha is taken away from him, Kumar is desperate to earn a million rupees. He tries every possible way to make money, until a woman exploits his situation and forces him into becoming a gigolo. How he handles this, and how he finds his way out, forms the essence of his story of innocence.
So far, characters have only been moved around. But for the first time, Kumar is transported to another dimension. The question is-what will he do there?
