John Calvin: The Statesman is a biographical book written by Richard Taylor Stevenson that explores the life and legacy of the influential Protestant theologian and religious reformer, John Calvin. The book provides a comprehensive overview of Calvin's life, from his early years in France to his eventual exile in Geneva, Switzerland, where he became a leading figure in the Protestant Reformation. Stevenson examines Calvin's role as a statesman, highlighting his political and social contributions to the city of Geneva, including his involvement in the establishment of a new form of church government and his efforts to promote education and social welfare. The book also delves into Calvin's theological beliefs and the impact of his teachings on the development of Protestantism, including his emphasis on predestination and the authority of scripture.
