It's 1974 and thirty-four-year-old Jimmy Blaze doesn't care that he failed a rigorous forty-day entrance exam to get into an elite paranormal unit of the CIA. That was years ago. He has forgotten all about the CIA. Now he is boxing's Welterweight Champion of the World. But the CIA has not forgotten Jimmy Blaze.
In fact, the CIA has maintained a very strong interest in Jimmy-since they implanted two specialized chips in his brain while they had control of him. One chip allows thoughts to be suggested to him as if they were his own. The other chip allows him to master any language after hearing it spoken. The CIA has plans for Jimmy Blaze someday. And so does a billionaire Russian dissident who has his own aspirations in the little-known world of paranormal crime. He figures, with Jimmy Blaze, he will have the ultimate time-traveling, remote-control spook.
When Intel tells the CIA that their boy is being headhunted by evil baddies, they devise a plan to catch them in the act. All they need to launch their covert operation is to get Sable, Jimmy's wife, out of the way-a feat more challenging than they anticipated.
