Ethan Cross has spent seven years surviving the apocalypse by doing exactly one thing: staying out of the way.
No guild. No rank. No awakened power. While the world rebuilt itself around Hunters who could tear through dungeons and monsters without breaking stride, Ethan stocked shelves at a convenience store and tried not to want things he couldn't have. The System had assessed him and, apparently, decided he wasn't worth the investment.
Then a Fracture opens in his building's basement and drags him in - and the System finally speaks.
One skill. Just one.
[Temporal Regression - Unique]
On death, rewind time by up to sixty seconds. Retain everything.
Not a combat skill. Not infinite power. Not the kind of ability that makes other Hunters stop and stare. Just this: when Ethan dies, he comes back - and he remembers. The attack pattern. The trap location. The exact second everything went wrong and why.
It doesn't sound like much. Until you realize there's no cooldown. Until you realize the skills he acquires in erased timelines don't erase with them. Until you realize that a man who can die as many times as he needs to learn something is not a man with a sixty-second window - he's a man who never stops improving.
By the end of his first month as a Hunter, Ethan has cleared dungeons that broke D-rank teams, accumulated a skill list that doesn't match any official acquisition record, and attracted the attention of the HAA's sharpest analyst - a woman who can't explain his numbers and won't stop trying.
The world thinks he's lucky. He knows better.
The first death is free. Everything after that is tuition.
