Transit to Mars remains the long-term objective.
That's what the letter says.
When the Continuance Initiative offers Annie Caldwell the opportunity to relocate to an orbital habitat ring, it is framed as dignity. Comfort. Contribution to planetary stabilization. A humanitarian program to protect senior citizens from worsening climate conditions.
It is voluntary.
It is responsible.
It is necessary.
On Earth, Annie's son Roy-a climate scientist-studies the projections behind the policy. Remove twenty million citizens over fifty-five, and energy demand drops. Medical strain eases. Housing density rebalances. Food consumption shifts.
The planet breathes, slightly easier.
But projections don't show what absence feels like.
As Annie adjusts to life in orbit-transit staging, officials call it-Roy begins to understand the deeper cost of solving a climate emergency by subtracting people from the equation.
It's Time To Go is a thought-provoking near-future climate science fiction novel about family, policy, and the moral line between stewardship and erasure.
When survival becomes a calculation, who gets counted-and who disappears?
