Non è un errore. È il modo in cui Mariangela De Michele ha imparato a contare il tempo dopo il trapianto di fegato che le ha restituito la vita il 1 dicembre 2021.
Prima di quel giorno ci sono stati sei anni di tumore al fegato, tre interventi chirurgici, referti letti tra le righe, corridoi d'ospedale attraversati in piena notte. Poi la telefonata che ogni paziente in lista d'attesa per un trapianto aspetta e teme allo stesso tempo: C'è il fegato per lei, deve partire immediatamente.
Quello che accade dopo è il cuore di questo memoir. Il primo organo non attecchisce. In tre giorni Mariangela affronta due trapianti, una rara complicanza neurologica e ventitré giorni di terapia intensiva, sospesa in un luogo senza tempo dove non esistono né il giorno né la notte. Al fegato che finalmente la riporta al mondo darà un nome: Maicol. Una emme per la madre perduta, una per sé stessa, una per Mirò, il Labrador che le aveva salvato la vita molto prima dei chirurghi.
Questo non è un libro sulla malattia. È un libro sulla forza silenziosa che scopriamo di avere quando pensiamo di averla perduta. Sulla solitudine che il cancro costruisce intorno a chi lo attraversa, anche quando sei circondato da persone che ti amano. Sugli amici che spariscono dietro la formula se hai bisogno, chiama e sulla sorella che invece resta, sempre, e ti tiene le mani per ricordarti che sei ancora viva.
Capitolo dopo capitolo, la voce dell'autrice alterna il presente della sala operatoria e il passato che riaffiora come un album di ricordi: il mare, il nuoto, la moto, il salvataggio in acqua con i cani, la notte dell'addio a sua madre. Una storia vera raccontata con ironia, precisione e una luce inattesa, che si chiude con un sorriso al posto della tristezza.
Un libro da leggere se:
stai affrontando una malattia oncologica o attendi un trapianto e cerchi una testimonianza autentica, non consolatoria;
sei un familiare o un caregiver e vuoi capire cosa succede davvero dall'altra parte del letto;
lavori nella sanità e vuoi vedere il reparto con gli occhi di chi lo abita;
ami le biografie e i memoir capaci di parlare di dolore senza mai smettere di parlare di vita.
Dietro ogni rinascita c'è una scelta che qualcuno ha compiuto per uno sconosciuto. Un fegato di nome Maicol è anche il modo in cui Mariangela dice grazie a quella famiglia che non conoscerà mai, e un invito silenzioso alla donazione degli organi.
Perché dopo un'enorme salita arriva sempre un falsopiano. Forse non una discesa, forse non una strada senza fatica, ma un tratto in cui si riesce di nuovo a respirare.
