The relationship between Iran (ancient Persia) and Israel (and the Jewish people) is a rich, millennia-old tapestry, woven with threads of coexistence, cooperation, antagonism, and profound transformation. This book aims to unravel this intricate relationship, tracing its ancient origins in the melting pot of Babylon and Persia, where the foundations of a singular interaction were forged. We will explore how the Hellenistic and Parthian empires shaped Jewish diaspora communities, and how the rise of the Sassanian Empire-and later the advent of Islam-introduced new layers of complexity and challenge.
Our primary focus will be the 20th century and the early 21st century. We will examine the surprising rapprochement and the so-called Periphery Alliance between the State of Israel and Pahlavi Iran-a chapter of geopolitical pragmatism that contradicts today's narrative of enmity. However, the dramatic turning point came with the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which transformed Iran into an anti-Western, anti-Israeli theocracy and marked the start of open hostility-escalating into one of the greatest threats to regional and global stability.
Through a detailed historical journey, this book sheds light on the ideological, political, and strategic forces driving this confrontation. We analyze Iran's nuclear program, its support for proxy groups across the region, and the shadow war waged through cyber-space and indirect fronts. Finally, we reflect on future scenarios and the critical role of the international community in managing one of the most dangerous and volatile rivalries of our time. Understanding this relationship isn't just essential to Middle Eastern history-it's key to decoding contemporary global geopolitics.
