There are places the whole world believes it knows.
Ibiza is one of them.
For millions of people, the island is a symbol of freedom.
Crystal-clear beaches.
Luxury yachts.
Legendary nightclubs.
Endless summer nights.
A paradise where every sunset seems to promise that life can be lived without limits.
Every year, visitors arrive searching for unforgettable memories.
Most of them find exactly what they came for.
But there is another Ibiza.
A very different Ibiza.
One that rarely appears in travel brochures, glossy magazines, or social media.
An island where alarm clocks ring long before sunrise.
Where thousands of workers are already preparing breakfasts while tourists are still asleep.
Where housekeepers walk miles every day pushing heavy carts loaded with towels and bed linen.
Where chefs spend endless hours in kitchens hotter than forty degrees Celsius.
Where waiters barely have time to drink a glass of water.
Where delivery drivers cross the island again and again, making sure restaurants, hotels, and businesses never run out of supplies.
That Ibiza exists too.
Yet somehow, it remains invisible.
For more than a decade, I experienced that reality from the inside.
The longer I worked there, the more I became aware of the enormous contrast between the two worlds that coexist on the same island.
Sometimes they were separated by nothing more than a single door.
On one side, laughter.
Music.
Champagne.
Celebration.
On the other, the relentless rhythm of a professional kitchen.
Orders shouted over the noise of extractor fans.
Burning heat.
Steel counters covered with plates waiting to be served.
People pushing themselves beyond exhaustion simply to keep everything running.
Two completely different worlds.
Separated by a wall.
United by necessity.
I never blamed the tourists.
Why would I?
They come to Ibiza to rest, to celebrate, to disconnect from everyday life.
They are not expected to know what happens behind the scenes.
The problem begins when an entire society chooses to look only at the beautiful side of reality.
Because whatever remains hidden eventually stops mattering.
And what stops mattering is rarely improved.
For years, I listened to people talk about Ibiza's success.
Record-breaking tourism.
Luxury investments.
Economic growth.
Five-star hotels.
Exclusive restaurants.
International recognition.
Yet I kept asking myself the same question.
Who speaks about the people who make all of this possible?
Behind every fully booked hotel stands an entire team of workers.
Behind every unforgettable dinner is a kitchen that has been operating under intense pressure for hours.
Behind every perfectly prepared room is a housekeeper whose effort almost nobody imagines.
Behind every spectacular party are hundreds of people who will stay long after the music has stopped, cleaning, repairing, organizing, and preparing everything for the following day.
They are the other Ibiza.
The one television cameras rarely show.
Over the years I learned to look at the island differently.
Whenever I saw a crowded hotel, I no longer thought only about the guests.
I thought about the people working inside.
When I passed a busy restaurant, I imagined the kitchen hidden behind its doors.
When I admired a full terrace overlooking the sea, I remembered the waiters who had already spent countless hours on their feet.
This book was born from those thoughts.
It is not a book against Ibiza.
It is a book about Ibiza.
About its most human side.
