In the study of speaking we must take into account its formation in terms of abstraction, an activity of the human being that gives rise to knowing and, more radically, to intuition. Now we would not have an intuition if we were not moved to it by what it is to want to say, reality without concrete existence, derived from human creativity and this from human freedom. There is thus a progressive determination from the innermost part of the human being to the only reality of speaking, reality with existence. Coseriu starts from the intellective operation of determination to explain what speaking is. He distinguishes three levels in speaking: speaking in general, speaking a language, and individual speaking. But he forgets the level prior to determination, i.e., the level of the creation of saying by speaking. It is therefore permissible to make a linguistics of saying that develops at the deepest level of the creation of language in a language and includes Coseriu's theory of speaking because saying is the determinant and speaking is the determinate. There would be neither speaking, nor languages, nor language if man were not the speaker.
