The Innocence of Father Brown
Father Brown is a Catholic priest, but a slightly unusual one in that he's also an amateur detective. Unlike his more famous literary cousin Sherlock, Father Brown takes a less analytical and more intuition-oriented approach to solving the many murders that he happens to come across.This collection of short murder mysteries is Brown's first appearance on the literary stage. In it we see him practicing his unique brand of sleuthing alongside his sometimes-partner, the reformed master criminal Flambeau.
Gilbert Keith Chesterton's The Innocence of Father Brown, originally published in 1911, compiles the first twelve stories of the eponymous Father Brown, Chesterton's inconspicuous priest and detective.
In the tales here presented, Chesterton introduces us to the beloved detective-priest in a series of cases that call for two sets of gifts: a detective's intelligence, guile, and eye for seemingly unimportant details, and a priest's wisdom, patience, and insight into man's fallen yet redeemed nature.
Sharp, witty, and reflective, Father Brown's tales remind us that not everything is exactly as it seems, that reason and faith ought to work together, and that the best strategy for solving a problem is often simply to sleep on it.
