The Industrial Revolution reshaped the world through machines, factories, steam power, coal, iron, and new systems of production. Beginning in Britain during the eighteenth century, industrialization changed the way goods were made, the way people worked, and the way cities and economies developed.

Textile production stood at the center of this transformation. Inventions such as the spinning jenny, water frame, and improved mechanical equipment increased production and encouraged the growth of mills and factories. Steam engines provided new sources of power, while expanding coal mining and iron production supplied the energy and materials needed for a rapidly changing industrial economy.

These developments also transformed everyday life. Factory workers faced long hours, strict discipline, low wages, and dangerous conditions. Women and children became an important part of the industrial workforce, while child labor became one of the most controversial consequences of the factory system. At the same time, rapid urbanization created growing industrial cities where overcrowding, pollution, disease, and poor housing became serious social problems.
