The history of international migration of people from India dates back to the late 19th century and there has been an unbroken change in their migration. From indentured labor to voluntary migration, Indians have come a long way in establishing themselves as immigrant communities characterized by their distinct social formations, both similar and different from the native society, by continuing their identifiable Indian identity. This book examines the Indian diaspora, taking cognisance of family, society, gender, elderly/youth, and religion as the journey of people belonging to different parts of India, with special focus on Punjabis from their traditional milieu and their engagement with the Western modernity.
