Lake Weslemkoon is where my soul flies when I am bereft of happiness because every moment there was uniquely human, and that is what made it divine.
What happens when the world is broken but cynicism no longer feels like an answer?
In this collection of stories and essays, I personally explore philosophy, politics, religion, technology, family, loss, moral courage, and the stubborn human need to believe that life can still mean something. Through the lens of Metamodernism, I attempt to search deeply for a way beyond both the comfortable certainties of the past and the corrosive skepticism of the present. In Search of Lake Weslemkoon is a fairly strange collection of stories and essays about childhood, family, philosophy, God, politics, war, technology, Dostoevsky, Ted Lasso, Postmodernism, beauty, and quite a few other things ta-boot that probably have no business whatsoever sharing a table of contents.
The stories themselves are all over the place: an old literature teacher is condemned as obsolete for refusing to surrender his humanity to AI; a real-life victim of identity fraud named William Woods is jailed and institutionalized in 2023 for the insanity of insisting that he is, in fact, himself; and a disillusioned lawman in the miserable town of Anslem is forced to decide what justice actually means after a little girl is killed. Thus, Lake Weslemkoon becomes more than just a place. It is a symbol of grace, beauty, wonder, and the possibility of a world made whole again. Some pieces are intimate, others provocative, but all return to one deeply relatable question: after so much has been torn apart, what is still worth rebuilding? This is a book for anyone who suspects that hope does not have to be naïve, truth does not have to be simple, and making the world better begins with refusing to give up on it.Also from
