Illustrations and Enquiries Relating to Mesmerism, Part 1 is a book written by Samuel Roffey Maitland and originally published in 1849. The book is a comprehensive exploration of the practice of mesmerism, which was a popular form of alternative medicine in the 19th century. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of mesmerism. Maitland begins by providing an overview of the history of mesmerism and its development as a medical practice. He then goes on to describe the techniques used in mesmerism, including the use of magnets and the manipulation of the patient's body.Throughout the book, Maitland provides numerous illustrations and diagrams to help readers better understand the concepts he is discussing. He also includes case studies of patients who have undergone mesmerism treatments, providing detailed descriptions of their experiences and outcomes. In addition to exploring the practical aspects of mesmerism, Maitland also delves into the philosophical and ethical implications of the practice. He discusses the role of the mesmerist in the healing process and the potential dangers of using mesmerism as a form of medical treatment.Overall, Illustrations and Enquiries Relating to Mesmerism, Part 1 is a fascinating look at a now largely forgotten form of alternative medicine. Maitland's detailed descriptions and case studies provide a valuable historical record of the practice, as well as insights into the beliefs and attitudes of 19th-century medical practitioners. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
