Discover the wild wonders of Jasper National Park through the eyes of a courageous bear family.
In Icefields and Flames: Brave Grizzlies of Jasper, children follow a wise grizzly mother and her two curious cubs on an unforgettable journey through Canada's rugged Rocky Mountains. From glacier-fed rivers and alpine meadows to campgrounds, fire pits, and icefields, the cubs learn what it means to stay wild, listen to the land, and survive in a changing wilderness. When a powerful wildfire threatens their home, the bear family must rely on instinct, family bonds, and courage to find safety again.
This beautifully illustrated picture book blends real wildlife behaviour with a compelling adventure, making it both a heart-warming story and an educational introduction to wildfire safety, conservation, and national park awareness. Set in iconic locations throughout Jasper National Park and the Icefields Parkway, the book introduces young readers to grizzly bears, ecosystems, and the importance of respecting wildlife, especially in places shared with humans.
Inspired by the true story of Bear 222 and her cubs during the Jasper wildfires, this book also encourages children to explore Canadian national parks, learn about fire safety, and understand how small human actions can have big impacts on wildlife. It serves as both a wildlife storybook and a visual travel guide for kids discovering the Canadian Rockies.
