I Told the Gods About Him
An Ancient Love Story
Before mankind built temples to the gods, the gods themselves were asking a dangerous question:
Who created us?
For centuries, Olympus has ruled from above, certain that mortals were meant to worship, obey, and never question the will of heaven.
Then came Adonis.
Born with extraordinary beauty and a heart unwilling to surrender its freedom, Adonis becomes something the gods never expected to fear. When Olympus discovers that his heart may one day belong to another man, the gods place Adonis beneath an ancient sleeping curse, convinced that no one will ever possess a love pure enough to wake him.
They are wrong.
Far away in ancient Ethiopia, Nigal, a legendary young warrior, begins dreaming of a mysterious sleeping man. Nigal does not know the stranger's name or why the dreams have chosen him.
Then one night, the sleeping man opens his eyes and whispers:
Nigal.
That single word sends Nigal across the ancient world on a journey filled with monsters, prophecies, forbidden magic, jealous gods, and secrets buried since the beginning of creation.
Poseidon wants him dead.
Ares knows the truth about his bloodline.
Aphrodite believes his love must be protected.
The mysterious Fates know how the story ends, but they are not telling.
And somewhere beyond Olympus, the ancient creators Nun and Atum are beginning to suspect that Adonis is connected to a power greater than any god they have ever known.
But Nigal is not crossing the world to become a hero.
He is crossing it for him.
Because after monsters have been defeated and gods have chosen their sides, Nigal must face a truth far more frightening than death:
Loving Adonis does not mean possessing him.
It means setting him free.
And when the world's most beautiful man finally opens his eyes, heaven will discover that Adonis was never merely a mortal waiting to be rescued.
Something was sleeping inside him too.
Something powerful enough to stop time.
Something ancient enough to frighten the gods.
And something that may change heaven forever.
I Told the Gods About Him is an epic mythological fantasy of Black queer love, ancient gods, African divinity, betrayal, destiny, faith, and two men willing to challenge heaven for the right to choose each other.
The gods were afraid Adonis would wake.
They should have been afraid of the man coming to wake him.
