What happens when a child holds all of their feelings inside throughout the school day?
Marcus does his best at school. He sits still, raises his hand, follows the rules, and keeps his feelings tucked away.
But by the time he gets home, his emotional drawer is completely full.
A soggy lunch. A missing eraser. A question he could not answer. A long and tiring day. Marcus carries every disappointment, worry, and frustration home with him-until one small problem finally pushes the drawer open.
With the gentle support of his mom, Marcus begins to understand that his big reaction is not really about one sandwich. It is about everything he held inside all day.
I Held It All Day is a comforting and relatable story that helps children recognize what it can feel like to become overwhelmed after spending the school day managing emotions, expectations, and everyday challenges. Through Marcus's experience, children are encouraged to name their feelings, talk about difficult moments, and seek support instead of carrying everything alone.
The book also includes simple activities and calming tools to help children:
- Identify and name their feelings
- Talk about worries, disappointments, and frustrations
- Practice calming breaths
- Create a comfortable calm-down space
- Express difficult feelings through writing and drawing
- Identify trusted people they can talk to
A thoughtful read for children, parents, caregivers, counselors, and teachers, I Held It All Day opens the door to one important question:
What got tucked down today?
Because sometimes what comes out after school is not really about what just happened.
It is about everything that happened before 3:15.
