Eight-year-old Summer Mathews hates reading.
Not stories. Stories are brilliant.
Just the actual reading bit.
Because in Summer's world, words jump about, signs are confusing, teachers call on you without warning, and revolving doors are basically traps.
When Summer's class visits the Royal Cornwall Discovery Museum, she expects the worst.
Long words.
Embarrassing reading.
Getting lost.
All of it.
But somewhere between a wonky bridge, a mystery object and a wooden puzzle cube, Summer starts to prove that her brain works in a different way.
Maybe the problem is not her.
Maybe it is the way the world expects reading to look.
I Hate Reading: Museum Signs is a funny, warm and illustrated chapter book for children aged 8-11. Perfect for readers who like short chapters, big feelings, chaotic family life, school-trip disasters, Cornish humour, and characters who do not always fit neatly into the world's boxes.
Inside you will find:
Revolving doors of doom.
Museum signs that attack.
Boys, cousins and chaos.
A seagull called Steven.
A grandad who sees things differently.
A girl who refuses to be defined by the words she cannot read.
Reading is not one size fits all.
This is her story.
