The world is about to be a very different place. Leaders in photonic technology at ARI, Grace Gibson and Phoebe Voss have created the first sentient, self-contained Holow, not needing external emitters to function. Jahc isn't safe, though. Waiting in the wings, greedily watching his emergence, is Clint Carrollton, eccentric owner of Augmented Reality Inc. He has his own plans for Jahc, even if it means getting Grace and Phoebe out of the way. Earth's advancements in photonics catch the attention of Gare'th, a scientist from Tonvi assigned to discover new planets for admission to the Consortium. He inadvertently sets Earth on a course towards destruction when a disagreement erupts over Earth's invitation. Meanwhile, an extreme activist group, the Evolution by Augmentation movement, threatens Grace's family home, the Pacific Dogwood Ranch. Maggie, Quin, Ian, and Kait defend the PDR from these terrorists, fighting to keep their way of life safe.
