Hjulet, originally published in 1905, is a novel by Danish author Johannes Vilhelm Jensen. The story follows the life of a young man named Niels Falk, who grows up in a small town in Denmark in the late 19th century. Niels is fascinated by the new technology of the time, particularly the bicycle, and dreams of becoming a successful inventor. As Niels grows older, he becomes increasingly disillusioned with his life in the small town and sets out to make a name for himself in the wider world. He travels to Copenhagen and eventually to Paris, where he becomes involved in the bohemian art scene and falls in love with a young artist named Yvonne. However, Niels' dreams of success and happiness are constantly thwarted by the harsh realities of life. He struggles to make ends meet, and his relationships with both Yvonne and his family back home become strained. As he faces one setback after another, Niels begins to question whether his pursuit of fame and fortune is really worth it.Hjulet is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of ambition, love, and the struggle for personal fulfillment. It is widely regarded as one of Jensen's most important works and a classic of Danish literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
