Hjulet (The Wheel) is a novel written by Danish author Johannes Vilhelm Jensen and first published in 1905. The story takes place in rural Denmark and follows the life of a young man named Knud Eriksson, who is a skilled blacksmith and inventor. Knud is fascinated by the power of the wheel and spends much of his time experimenting with different designs and applications for it.As the story progresses, Knud becomes increasingly obsessed with his work and begins to neglect his personal relationships, including his marriage to his wife, Gertrud. He becomes consumed by his desire to create the perfect wheel and to prove himself to the world as a great inventor.Throughout the novel, Jensen explores themes of ambition, love, and the struggle between individuality and conformity. The story is also notable for its vivid descriptions of the Danish countryside and its portrayal of the challenges faced by rural communities in the early 20th century.Hjulet is considered one of Jensen's most important works and is widely regarded as a classic of Danish literature. Its themes and characters continue to resonate with readers today, making it a timeless exploration of the human condition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
