Der Mückenkrieg (The War of the Gnats), a German translation of Teofilo Folengo's mock-heroic poem, is presented here in this 1833 edition. Translated by Hans Christoph Fuchs and with notes by Balthasar Schnurr, this edition offers a glimpse into the reception of Renaissance literature in the 19th century. The poem recounts a war between gnats and ants in a humorous and exaggerated style, parodying epic conventions. This edition will appeal to scholars of German literature, classical reception, and the history of translation, as well as those interested in the mock-heroic tradition.
