A fiatal francia újságÃró, Claude Vorilhon 27 évesen az egyik legjelentősebb francia motorsport magazin sofőrje és szerkesztője volt. De 1973. december 13-án az élete fenekestül felfordult, amikor egy kialudt vulkán kráterében, Clermond-Ferrand közelében egy 7 méter átmérőjű repülő csészealjat látott feltűnni, teljesen némán, nagyon fényes ezüstös fémből.
