Eugene Harris has one simple problem with the world: people rarely say exactly what they mean.
When Eugene starts a new job at Citywide Community Services, he quickly discovers that the workplace is overflowing with expressions that make absolutely no sense when taken literally. Happy Hump Day. Hit the ground running. Hold your horses. Bring something to the table. To everyone else, they're ordinary sayings. To Eugene, they are instructions that deserve serious questions.
What follows is a hilarious journey through work, family, friendships, dating, and everyday life as Eugene challenges the phrases everyone else accepts without thinking. His literal interpretation of language creates awkward encounters and unforgettable situations-but underneath the comedy is something surprisingly meaningful: Eugene notices things other people overlook. His insistence on clear words begins solving real problems and even changes the people around him.
As Eugene navigates expressions like shoot your shot, under the weather, break a leg, and more, his unusual way of seeing the world proves that sometimes questioning what everybody else takes for granted can reveal something important.
Hump Day Wednesday? is a funny, character-driven comedy novel about language, relationships, misunderstandings, and one unforgettable man who believes words should simply do their jobs.
