A book of prosecution, and not a book of despair.
We are nine billion people on this Earth. Eight and a half billion of us want the same things: our children to eat, our neighbors to have a roof, an end to the wars the old refuse to end, clean air and clean water, and ground beneath our feet that will still be alive when our grandchildren stand on it.
So how is it that the world is run as if almost no one wants any of that?
THE HUMAN UPRISING is the answer to that question, and the case for what we do about it. Written by an ordinary grandfather to his grandchildren, and to every person who has been told to expect less than a human life, this book prosecutes the systems that have brought us to this place. It names them. It shows what they cost. And it makes one further argument that gives the book its title. The math has always been on the people's side.
Across twenty-four chapters and a mid-book Coda, Paul Muleri walks the reader through five parts.
HOW WE GOT HERE. Why humanity was not born broken. When god became government. Why borders are not real.
THE MACHINERY OF THE MODERN WORLD. War as a permanent economy. The captured state. The quiet rollback of a century of gains. The rocks in the backyard. The editing of truth.
THE OLD CHAINS. Holy war and the permission to kill. The war against women and the body. The hidden crimes and the atrocity archive. The alliance with empire. The business of salvation.
Between the third and fourth parts, a Coda gives voice to the founder himself. A reconstructed sermon in the voice family of the historical Jesus, asking what a man from a small country under empire, executed for teaching that the poor were blessed, would say about the world built in his name.
WHAT HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM US. The knowledge they will not let us have. The Earth we are eating. The wars we launch against children.
THE UPRISING. Why not everyone was meant to work. The power we forgot. How empires actually fall. What we do now. The worlds that already exist. And a final letter, from the grandfather to the grandchildren.
The peaceful majority is almost everyone. The rulers are almost no one. The remembering of this is the beginning of the change.
For readers of Naomi Klein, David Graeber, and Astra Taylor. For readers of Chomsky, Zinn, and Wilkerson. For readers who have finished too many books about what is broken and are asking, honestly, what is left to do.
Paul Muleri is a piping and plant designer in oil and gas. His mentorship series, written for the next generation of piping and plant designers, preceded THE JESUS THEY BURIED (2026), an evidence-first investigation of the historical Jesus. THE HUMAN UPRISING is his second work of long-form political and historical investigation. He lives in Montreal, Quebec.
