A House To Let is a collaborative novel written by Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Adelaide Anne Procter. Originally published in 1858, the book tells the story of a mysterious house in London that is available to let. The novel is divided into four parts, each written by one of the four authors, and follows the lives of various characters who become connected to the house. The first part, written by Dickens, introduces the reader to the house and its owner, a reclusive and wealthy man named Mr. Jabez Jarber. The subsequent parts, written by Collins, Gaskell, and Procter, respectively, each focus on a different character who moves into the house and becomes embroiled in a mystery or drama. The characters include a retired sea captain, a governess, and a young couple. Throughout the book, the authors weave together themes of love, loss, and redemption, all while keeping the reader guessing about the true nature of the house and its occupants. A House To Let is a fascinating example of Victorian collaborative fiction and a must-read for fans of Dickens and his contemporaries. At one period of its reverses, the House fell into the occupation of a Showman. He was found registered as its occupier, on the parish books of the time when he rented the House, and there was therefore no need of any clue to his name. But, he himself was less easy to be found; for, he had led a wandering life, and settled people had lost sight of him--by Dickens and others. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
