The History of Corkerhill and the Paisley Canal by Derek Niven relates the associated history of the author's birthplace of Corkerhill from mediaeval times to the present day, incorporating adjacent districts to the south-west of Glasgow. It incorporates the expansion of Corkerhill as a small farm-steading with the arrival of Thomas Telford's Glasgow, Paisley and Ardrossan Canal project in the first decade of the nineteenth century, followed by the infill of the Paisley Canal in 1882 by the Glasgow & South Western Railway Company. In 1896, the G&SWR built the Corkerhill Depot and accompanying model railway village and around 1900 opened Corkerhill Station. The author was born in the railway village in 1956 and relates his memories of village life, until his family were decanted to the nearby Pollok housing scheme in 1970.
