Heartstone brings the reader to the realisation that those two cultures - The Movement and the clans - might not be the dominant culture in play. They know they've been steered for around two centuries, and the representatives of this third, and apparently more dominant, culture are now putting their final pieces into place. I like to play with the perceptions the reader might construct from one book to the next. That perhaps no one culture are either the good guys or the bad guys. The continent itself plays an intrinsic role; it's not just set in Australia because I know Australia better than other countries.

The Movement would need to guard them from the Clans and the Clans, in turn, would need to guard them from The Movement.
