He Knew He Was Right is a novel by Anthony Trollope, first published in 1869. The book tells the story of Louis Trevelyan, a wealthy and respected man who becomes convinced that his wife, Emily, is having an affair with a family friend. Despite Emily's protestations of innocence, Louis becomes increasingly jealous and controlling, ultimately driving her away and causing a scandal that destroys their marriage and reputation. As Louis becomes more and more obsessed with proving his wife's infidelity, he alienates himself from his friends and family and descends into madness. The novel explores themes of jealousy, pride, and the destructive power of obsession, and is considered one of Trollope's most psychologically complex works.I have said that nobody is to be admitted. Louis has driven me to that. How can I look the servant in the face and tell him that any special gentleman is not to be admitted to see me? Oh dear! oh dear! have I done anything to deserve it? Was ever so monstrous an accusation made against any woman! If it were not for my boy, I would defy him to do his worst.'This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
